Here are snapshots of two brand new paintings. They are quite large, taller than me at 1.8 m. The first comprises 32,000 semicircles and the second 16,000. They are fourth and fifth in a series of experiments and a further two are on the way.
The design is the result of work to express an important idea about Nature at its smallest scale - that there can be hidden correlations between seemingly disparate systems which are revealed when the two things are regarded as one.
The top and bottom bands in each painting are the results for the separate systems. Each band contains equal numbers of two differently coloured semicircles. There is not much to see, just a random pattern. The interest arises in the middle section where the bands are overlaid one over the other and ripples of correlation appear.
Nature reminds us to look carefully for unexpected connections between things.
