light printing
These pictures are made by using two cardboard screens with holes cut in them. A shape is cut in the first screen to make an image, for example a square, a dancer or a star. The second screen has an array of small holes in it through which the image can travel onto a third translucent screen made of tracing paper. The screens are arranged in line, one after the other and the lights are switched off. The image side of the set-up is illuminated and the new picture created is viewed on the translucent screen. The set-up, kit and some of the outputs are here.
Selecting images in space using small holes is a demonstration of the remarkable and everyday miracle - that every single point in space contains myriad images.
